“When I observe Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You set in place, what is man that You remember him, the son of man that You look after him?” Psalm 8:3-4 (HCSB)
In some seasons of life, my plate has been too full. And I’m not talking my dinner plate…that’s a different subject. I am tired now thinking of my top responsibilities during one of those busy seasons – wife, mother, working full time, and leading a college ministry. Pursuing a Master of Divinity took busy to a whole new level.
While taking classes, I searched for every opportunity to squeeze in time to study. Weeks of earned vacation hours spent in the reserved library rooms writing papers. I pulled flashcards out of my purse during half time and time outs of my son’s AAU basketball games. I’ll never forget the 8 am Greek final in a hotel business center…you know the little room with the printer.
With such a busy schedule, I was forced to shift my focus and priorities. I relied on my husband, mom, and friends a ton. My husband and kids saw so many movies without me. My mom attended school events in my place.
One thing was painfully clear during this season…I could not do it all.
In Psalm 8, David took time to think about all of God’s work. We can see God’s work in the heavens when we look up at the moon and the stars. If we get a telescope or look online at the galaxies, we will be overwhelmed by his work.
And yet in all that God does, He is never too busy that he fails to remember and looks after us! Not like how we remember people. We see a friend in the store and say, “I was just thinking about you last week.” But I never called or sent a text.
Where would we be if God only thought of us once a week? God doesn’t think of us once a week or once a month. He thinks of us all day. Our heavenly Father intentionally sees and thinks of us to properly take care of us.
And when God is thinking about me, He is thinking about you. But God doesn’t confuse us. He knows my needs. He hears my prayers. He can distinguish your voice from mine. He knows your needs. He hears your prayers.
God is never overwhelmed or too busy to see us and take care of us.
He doesn’t have to ask someone else to listen to our prayers. His care for us is amazing.
So as we approach 2021, life may feel fast or slow. We may be juggling a lot right now. We may have to say no to some things to make space for others. We can take great comfort knowing God does not have to say no to anything to think about and care for us.

As I head back to work for the first time in this new year, I can feel the weight of my responsibilities creeping back in as I desperately try to hold on to the feelings of peace and restoration that this long break provided. Your post was right in time. The reminder that God sees me and knows my needs is just the confirmation that I whatever comes my way… he’s got me.
Congratulations on this wonderful endeavor.
